Counseling Center

About the Counseling Center
The Hilbert Counseling Center provides and maintains a confidential, safe environment as you pursue your academic and personal goals. Using a holistic approach, we offer educational encouragement for a healthy mind, body and spirit. We provide you with a warm, friendly and professional service.

As a student, this is a time of new challenges as you learn to balance scheduling, academics, work and athletics, with leisure activities, relationships, family and quiet time. Taking the time to address these issues in a comfortable and confidential setting can have a positive impact on your academic, physical and personal performance.

Students come to counseling for many reasons. Counseling offers you the opportunity to learn about yourself and how to resolve personal problems. It is often helpful to talk with someone who is not personally involved with your situation who can offer a different perspective.

We can offer help if you are experiencing anxiety about your academic performance, having difficulties adjusting to college life and pressures, dealing with family problems or the loss of someone close to you, have a drug or alcohol problem, or other concerns that may arise.

The Counseling Center offers individual and group counseling. In addition, we are available to speak on mental health topics to classes, resident students or campus organizations. Clients are referred off-campus when a full psychological assessment is needed and when medications may be required.

Confidentiality
We are professionally, personally and legally committed to your right to privacy. What you discuss with your counselor is strictly confidential and will remain so within the Counseling Center.

Exceptions to this are where it is a matter of saving your life or someone else's, there is a court order, or when we are required by law to report child or elder abuse.

Other than these exceptions, we will tell no one about why you came to the Counseling Center, what you talked about with your counselor, or that you are a client.  No information is released without your written consent.
