Broadening Horizons and Lives At Hilbert, we define elder not by age but by life experience. If you're looking for a way to enhance your retirement years, then you'll want to take part in the Elder Scholars Program. About the Program The first of its kind in Western New York higher education, the Elder Scholars Program creates a special community between the elder group and some of Hilbert's top students. It is designed to draw a contingent age 50 and older into the learning environment with college-level course participation and other activities, like informal book and discussion groups and a speaker series targeted to seniors. The program's most distinctive thrust is the link between elder scholars and Hilbert's Honors Program students, who are among the most distinguished learners at the college. The two groups meet in formal and informal settings. Elder scholars have a chance to play a mentoring role in the learning experiences of some of Hilbert's best students. As an elder scholar, you may participate in a wide array of college-level courses but are not required to complete written assignments or sit for exams. You will also have complete access to the college's facilities. The Elder Scholars Program offers multi-tiered options. Three levels of participation are available at different annual costs, which help elder scholars individualize the program. At the highest level, participants are designated elder scholar stewards, meaning they help govern the program. More information about the program's options is available by going to Levels of Participation. Who May Apply The Elder Scholars Program is designed for individuals age 50 and older. Anyone in this age group is eligible to apply for the program. To participate, go to How to Apply in the Elders Scholars section.
