Collegiate Learning Assessment
The Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA), developed by the Council for Aid to Education (CAE), is a tool for measuring the value-added of a liberal arts education in the important areas of critical thinking, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and written communication. These higher order skills are considered central to Hilbert's mission. Hilbert College began using the CLA as an important component in its overall approach to assessing student learning outcomes in 2008 as a member of a national consortium sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC).
