A published poet, Hughes’ primary focus is on 20th century American poetry and Romantic period literature, art and music. His other interest is in film studies of various genres, particularly the history of American cinema, modern American directors, major technical and creative contributions to filmmaking, femme fatale film, and film adaptations of fictional literature. Director of Hilbert’s Creative Studies Program, Hughes can talk about poetry and short fiction writing and writing strategies. He also organizes the college’s successful Visiting Artist Series, bringing to campus nationally and regionally known artists.
