Ripley and Pernick shine in first year of competition

HAMBURG, NY - Baseball’s Jim Pernick and Softball’s Emili Ripley have been named Hilbert College’s Co-Student-Athletes of the month for March, 2010.
Freshman pitcher and third baseman, Emili Ripley (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame Catholic), has been a force at home plate this season. Ripley currently boasts a .355 batting average connecting 14 times during her 42 at bats for the Hawks. The freshman has recorded three doubles, 13 RBI’s and has crossed home plate nine times. Ripley has mirrored her strong offensive efforts, tallying 10 put outs while only making six errors on defense. She has anchored the pitching staff and continues to lead through example. Her versatility and ability to play any position on the field has contributed to the team’s success.
Ripley is also one of the 54 Hilbert student- athletes to be named as a member of the AMCC Academic All-Conference team for her outstanding 3.52 GPA. Student-athletes are recognized for their academic achievements, carrying a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher entering the spring 2010 semester.
Sophomore transfer, Jim Pernick (Tonawanda, NY/St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute), has been the leader for the Hawks offense this season. With a team record of 4-8 for the month of March, Pernick holds an impressive batting average of .413. During his 46 at bats, Pernick has registered two doubles, one triple, and a home run while managing to strike out only one time. He leads the team with 7 RBI’s and 19 hits. The transfer has also put points on the scoreboard by reaching home plate 10 times in twelve games. Pernick has excelled on defense as well gathering 28 put outs while only committing five errors.
Pernick joins Ripley on the AMCC Academic All-Conference team for his dedication to academics and athletics, earning a GPA of 3.33 during the fall semester.
