HAMBURG, NY– Kevin Rice, who has more than 10 years experience coaching and instructing golf at area high
schools and country clubs, has been named head coach at Hilbert College, announced Susan Viscomi, director of athletics.
“With Kevin’s proven track record of success and expertise in teaching the game of golf, we are excited about the new direction for our program. His ties to local courses will allow us to expand both our practice and hosting capabilities. Our team will benefit tremendously from these upgrades.” said Viscomi.
Rice most recently served as the Section IV Coordinator for Boys high school golf the last three years. Prior to that, he was the varsity coach at Silver Creek (1997-2007) where his teams won three league titles, three league championships and produced one young man who earned four trips to the New York State High School Championships before he matriculated at Ohio State University and Augusta State as a scholarship student-athlete.

During his decade of coaching, Rice also held an assistant golf professional position at the Lancaster Country Club before serving as the head golf pro at Tri-County Country Club.
“My experience in the golf arena is important, but my fourteen years of teaching are the reason I am successful on the golf course,” said Rice. “I have worked hard to find various ways to teach students and I am looking forward to working on improving the mental readiness and confidence in my team as much as their individual golf games.”
Currently Rice is the Dean of Students at Silver Creek Central Schools and a faculty member in the English department. In addition to his teaching duties, Rice coaches the bowling team and is the Drama Director. Prior to Silver Creek, Rice was a high school English instructor at Falconer Central, a Liberty Partnership tutor at Forestville Central and a Literature and History teacher at Lakeview Shock Correctional Facility.
Rice holds a bachelor’s degree in English education and a master’s degree in American literature from the State University of New York at Fredonia. He is working towards completion of NYS Leadership Certification in Education.
