Men's Cross Country Competes at Harry Anderson

Chili, NY - The men’s cross country team at Hilbert College participate in the annual Harry F. Anderson race hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College on September 25th. The men’s team finished the 8K course in a combined time of 3:25:51.54 resulting in a tenth place finish. Hilbert’s fastest runner was senior Aaron Lawrence (Fishkill, NY/John Jay) in a personal time of 38:29.18 good for 56 points towards the team’s combined total (301). The University of Rochester (#26 Division III) dominated the men’s race with nineteen of the top thirty-four harriers finishing in under 28:23.00. Freshman Yuji Wakimoto from Rochester finished in 26:32.28 sprinting ahead of fellow Yellowjacket, Thomas Hollwell. This one-two punch out-distanced the University of Buffalo’s Aaron Walker by almost five seconds. (click here to view the complete results of the race).
Hilbert’s six other competitors were: junior Cameron Haag (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) finishing in 39:13.71 (85th); freshman Lenny Messina (Long Island, NY/Centereach) 41:00.00 (87); freshman Keyon McCarly (Buffalo, NY/Oracle) in 42:04.6 (91); sophomore Jeff Gauthier (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) in 45:03.63 (92); junior Paul Coleman (Buffalo, NY/Cardinal O’Hara) in 47:18.86 (93) and freshman Stephen Crane (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) in 50:49.09 (94).
The Hawks will be hosting the second annual Meghan Memorial Race on Saturday, October 2nd to honor the memory of Meghan Sorbera, a former student-athlete and cross country member at Hilbert. The race is being held at Frontier high school with the men’s event beginning at 9:30 am. Interested runners should register on-line at www.buffalorunners.com or register the morning of the race.
