Hamburg, NY - The Hilbert College women’s volleyball team hosted crosstown rival Medaille College on Wednesday, September 29 in what would be a quick match ending in 56 minutes. Hilbert played even in all three sets (17-25, 15-25, 17-25), but around the mid-teens score Medaille turned it up a notch and finished each set strong (3-0). The visiting Mavericks improved to 2-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) play (10-6 overall) while Hilbert moved to 0-3 (3-11 overall).
Sophomore middle hitter Rachel Kwiatkowski (West Seneca, NY/Orchard Park) led the team with 5 kills by hitting .455 from the front line. Senior libero Amanda Dudek (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda) and sophomore outside hitter Brittany Baum (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) each worked hard to keep the ball alive off Medaille’ s attacks. Both Hawks had 10 digs each in the three-set loss.
Up next for Hilbert is a trip to Pittsburgh, PA on October 2 when they play La Roche College in another AMCC match-up. La Roche is 4-7 overall and this Saturday’s game will be the Red Hawks first conference game of the season.
