Buffalo, NY – Hilbert men’s volleyball dropped a non-conference game to #8 ranked Medaille College February 9, (3-0). The Hawks were competitive in the first set (25-20) but after that, Medaille seemed to control the net and kept the Hawks moving around the court chasing well placed balls. The Mavericks .40 hitting percentage was garnered through a balanced attack with seven players earning three or more kills for the match.
Hilbert’s offense was directed by senior Dan Wolfe (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) who distributed 22 assists. Fellow Ohioans Adam Weaver (Stow, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and RJ Sykora (Stow, OH, Stow-Munroe Falls) had 10 and 9 kills a piece. Sophomore Gary Gawera (Eden, NY/Eden) matched the 9 digs that the boys from Ohio brought up and kept in play. Hilbert had forty-two digs for the 3-set match (25-20, 25-13, 25-17).
The Hawks (0-8, 0-2) travel this weekend to Beverly, MA to participate in the Endicott College Tournament, both Saturday and Sunday. They open up against MIT (11-2) and Eastern Mennonite University (6-6) Saturday then move into pool play on Sunday.
