Myrtle Beach, SC – Becker College took two games from the Hilbert College softball team March 17th in the Field of Dreams tournament. The morning game found the Becker pitchers facing, on average, four batters per inning en route to an 8-0, 5-inning game. Hilbert rebounded in the second game and out-hit Becker but stranded 12 runners on base which resulted in a 7-6 loss. With the day’s two losses, the Hawks drop to 1-8 at the conclusion of their spring trip.
Becker opened the day with a two-run homer in the first inning and then quietly pulled away. In the bottom of the 5th, Becker’s Whitney Buck's triple (3RBI’s) ended the game via the ‘mercy rule’ since Becker built an eight-run lead.
In game two, Hilbert’s bats connected for 16 hits but the team’s rally for a come-from-behind victory fell short. Becker held a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 6th inning before Hilbert scored 3 runs from Lisa Crowe and Alison Hall’s RBI’s. The Hawks offense stalled allowing Becker to ride out the storm to a 7-6 win. Sophomore Amber Grosch (Depew, NY/Depew) was 5 for 7 scoring one run and earning 1 RBI while Lisa Crowe (Eden, NY/Eden/Fredonia) (1 RBI) and Halsey Baker (Scio, NY/Scio) each were 3 for 6 for the day.
Hilbert travels north back to WNY and prepares for their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener March 26 against Mount Aloysius College.
