ERIE, PA – In the second game of the week at a neutral site location, the Hilbert softball team was swept by Franciscan University at Penn State Behrend’s campus April 30, 10-9 and 7-0Devan Jonathan (Basom, NY/Akron) went 3 for 6 sending in 3RBI for the Hawks in their two AMCC losses.

In the morning game, the Hawks held a 9-6 lead before the ‘home team’ tied it up in the bottom of the 7th inning forcing extra innings. Hilbert was held scoreless in the top of the 8th after a runner was placed on 2nd base to start the extra period.  Three of Hilbert’s four batters flied out to end their rotation. When it was Franciscan’s turn at bat, they moved the runner on second into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Their next two batters were intentionally walked by Hilbert to load the bases looking for and easy out.  The Barons next batter singled sending home the winning run stealing the 10-9 game from the Hawks. Jonathan went 3 for 4 with the 3RBI but she had some help from Allison Hall (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda) and Sara Graves (Retsof, NY/York) 2 RBI’s.

The Hawks seemed ready to redeem themselves in the night cap game after the way they opened the game moving around the bases the first two innings. But starting in the 3rd inning, the Hawk bats shut down and on average, there were 4 batters per inning and no runs scored. The Barons had a big four-run 3rd inning which seemed to shut down the Hawks. Franciscan scored three more runs in the 6th and after holding Hilbert scoreless in their next at-bats, the green and white grabbed two games for the day from the Hawks.

Hilbert closes their season out on May 1st when they host Mount Aloysius College at Erie Community College’s north campus.
