HAMBURG, NY - After a slow first half, the Hilbert women’s soccer team picked up their intensity the second period to secure a 2-1 victory over Pitt-Greensburg September 24. With the victory, the Hawks (6-3) now have a 1-0 AMCC record and dropped Greensburg to 0-1 (0-8 overall).
Greensburg’s Alexa Henry scored first at 12:47 after she intercepted a pass to give her an open goal for the score. The Bobcats held the lead for 13 minutes until Katie Newton {#19 in photo to right} crossed the ball from the right wing which caused it to veer into the upper 90 over Olivia Valenti, Greensburg’s goalie.
After halftime, the Hawks came out with a different attitude and outplayed the visitors. Kayla Norman gave Alyssa Hulbert a nice pass which allowed Hulbert to rocket the ball from behind the box into the goal. Hulbert’s eighth goal of the season put the Hawks ahead on the scoreboard for good.
Hilbert outshot Greensburg 9-2 and had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks during the second half. It was only a matter of time before their second goal materialized in the 77th minute.
The Hawks have a week-long break from games before they travel to Franciscan University October 1.
