HAMBURG, NY – With 2:29 left in the second overtime period, Greensburg’s Alex Leonard headed home the game winning goal giving the Bobcats a 2-1 victory on the road. With the loss, Hilbert drops to 0-1 in the AMCC league play, having fought their first conference game September 24. Ed Sarcione scored the lone-Hilbert goal in the first two minutes of the contest yet the Hawks couldn’t find the back of the net after that emotional jolt to start the game.
Greensburg’s Brady Paterson earned his first goal of the season off a crossed ball from Jeremy Niemiec and Max Paolone who were able to find the seams in Hilbert’s defense. That score at 43:17 made for an interesting finish to the game.
After a 15-minute intermission, both teams played even the rest of the contest. Hilbert could have secured the win in the 62nd minute had a Sarcione shot not hit the cross bar and deflected away from the goal.
Not much happened in the first 10-minute overtime; Greensburg took 2 shots (one save, one wide right), and one corner kick. Hilbert took one shot which was saved.
In the second overtime, Hilbert couldn’t take advantage of what they earned: a wide right shot and a corner kick which came up empty. Greensburg took two shots (both were wide) but earned the win off Leonard's header which loop-up just over the outstretched arms of Hilbert’s keeper.
Both teams took 16 shots although Hilbert held the advantage in shots on goal (7-5). Kamil Cislak made 3 saves in the 107.18 minute game while Andre Moskhalis grabbed 6.
Hilbert (0-8-1) faces Alfred University September 28 under the lights in Alfred, NY. The Hawks then continue with their AMCC league games October 1 when they travel to Franciscan University.
