HAMBURG, NY – Facing another top ten program in the country, the Hilbert College men’s volleyball team put up a good fight in their 3-1 loss to #7 ranked Nazareth College February 22. The Hawks (2-10) captured their first win against Nazareth (11-4) since the program began competing at the Division III level in 2000.
After dropping the first set 25-19, the Hawks stormed back to capture the second game by a 25-21 margin. The visitors found their rhythm and held off the Hawks in the final two sets by identical scores, 25-20. Hilbert’s ten service errors limited their chances for an upset but the Hawks had their best hitting night of the season, finishing with 36 kills and .245 hitting percentage.
Adam Weaver led the way with 12 kills (eight digs) while Scott Ross’ .455 hitting percentage caught the Golden Flyers off balance with his seven kills from the middle. Ryan Ratajczak was credited with 13 digs and Stephen Phillips earned 29 assists.
Up next for the blue and white is a home match against Wells College February 25 at 12pm. The Express bring an 0-4 record into the contest.
