HAMBURG, NY – Ron Dussett (Buffalo, NY/Traditional) led all scorers with 20 points and teammate Dallas Reinard (Smethport, PA/Smethport) added 19 to help the Hilbert College men’s basketball team to a 79-73 win over La Roche College Saturday night. The win improves Hilbert to 3-4 overall and gives the Hawks their first win in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) where they now sit at 1-3.

The Hawks led 41-34 at the break thanks to the inside duo of Dussett and Noah McHale (Bradford, PA/Archbishop Walsh) who were a combined seven of eight from the field. Hilbert shot 57.1% from the field and held the seven-point advantage despite the visiting Redhawks making 14 of 25 field goal attempts (56%).

The Redhawks rallied late in the second-half and tied the score for the fourth time at 67-67 on a three-pointer by Zack Kostorick with 3:27 to play. The home team put away nine of 12 free throws over the final 60 seconds to seal the win and send the Redhawks home 2-7, 1-3.

“We really received some great production from Ron (Dussett) and Noah (McHale) and our shot selection was as good as it’s ever been,” said Hilbert coach Rob deGrandpre. “It was a solid effort against a very good opponent in our league”.

Dussett and Reinard each finished with 11 rebounds and helped the Hawks to a 37-26 advantage on the glass. McHale finished with 15 points and seven boards and Glen Ufland (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon) came off the bench to pour in 13 points for the winners.

La Roche was paced by guard Stacy Grady who finished with 17 points. Post player Adam Kostewicz added 16 points and five boards in the losing effort.

The Hawks will travel to Buffalo State Friday, December 15th for a first round match-up with D’Youville College in the Holiday Inn Invitational. The 6:00 pm match-up at the Buffalo State Sports Arena will be the preliminary game before the 8:00 pm contest between Medaille College and the host Bengals.
