Pittsburgh, PA – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released the All-Conference selections for the men’s basketball league March 1.   Hilbert College’s sophomore sharp shooter, Dan McFarland and freshman point guard CJ Hodge were honored for their steady and productive play during the 2010-2011 season. McFarland (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary’s) was named to the 2nd team while Hodge (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) earned the Newcomer of the Year award.

Averaging thirty minutes a game, McFarland’s 16.6 points per game led the Hawks in scoring. While attempting 345 shots from the floor, the lefty led the Hawk guards in field goal percentage from inside the arc (48.4%) and carried the team with forty-four percent from the three-point land. In conference play, McFarland finished among the top fifteen players in several categories - #5 in scoring average (16.3 ppg); #11 in field goal percentage (49.1%); #15 in assists (2.4 apg); #12 free throw percentage (73.4%); and #8 in steals per game (1.7 spg). As the season progressed, McFarland’s ball touches and point production increased.  He netted 38 points on Feb. 12th against Mt. Aloysius, 38 points {again} against Mt. Aloysius on Feb. 22nd (in the quarterfinals of the AMCC play-off game) and 30 points on Feb. 25th against La Roche College (in the league’s semi-final game).
Freshman CJ Hodge was the only player to start all 27 games for the 12-15 Hawks this season. As the quarterback on the team, Hodge led Hilbert with 115 assists and 51 steals averaging almost thirty-three minutes a game. The rookie ranked #30 in AMCC scoring (8.9 ppg), #4 in assists (3.9), #2 in steals (2.2), and finished with a 1.3 assist to turnover ratio. Hodge’s most dramatic contribution was in the Hawks must-win road game at Bradford late in the season when he led the team with 22 points, four steals, and two assists in thirty-six minutes as the general on the floor. He had three key steals in the comeback surge and scored the winning bucket to seal the 79-77 victory.
Head lining the 1st, 2nd and 3rd All-Conference teams are the Newcomer of the Year (Hodge), the Co-Players of the Year (Nate Wojciechowski, La Roche and Chris Saltzman, Behrend), Defensive Player of the Year (Mike Dixon, La Roche) and Coach of the Year (Scott Lang/Harry Jenkins, La Roche).
