HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College’s Tim Jordan (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) scored the only goal needed to give the host Hawks a 1-0 win over Thiel College on Friday afternoon. Hilbert starts the 2006 campaign 1-0 while the visiting Tomcats fall to 0-1 on the young season.
Jordan’s game winning goal came at 23:00 of the first-half on a rare combo play from Kirk Love (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) and Dan Russel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois). Hilbert rookie keeper Joshua Griffey (Holland, NY/Holland) turned away five shots to record his first collegiate shutout.
A stiff Hawks defense limited the visitors to three shots on goal during the second stanza. Tomcats keeper Mark Coney made seven saves in a losing effort.
The Hawks return to action September 5th and will play host to Elmira College out of the Empire Eight athletic conference. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
