D’Youville College men’s and women’s teams captured the Meghan Memorial Race hosted by Hilbert College October 1. It was a wet and breezy morning for the 3rd annual race, and, for the first time since the race started, only two open runners in the community participated.
D’Youville’s Jarred Bogardus captured the men’s race (19:46) well ahead of his teammate William Goode (21:06). Hilbert’s Matthew Williams crossed right on Goode’s heals (21:07) earning 3rd place overall. The Spartans top five runs claimed slots 1, 2, 4, 6 and 9 giving them 22 team points. Hilbert’s team pace for the 5K race was 22:43 compared to D’Youville’s 21:44.
On the women’s side of the time card, D’Youville’s 16 team points earned them the team championship. D’Youville’s Maria Fusco’s 22:59 earned her the women’s individual title but she also crossed the finish line 9th overall. Hilbert’s Maria Linares led the Hawk squad after completing the 5K race in 25:17 claiming 5th place in the women’s division.
The Hawks will race next weekend at the Medaille Invitational at Beaver Island State Park.
