Men's Volleyball Opens With A Win In Tourney

ELMIRA, NY – The Hilbert College men’s volleyball team split games on the opening day of their 2012 season at the Elmira College tournament. The Hawks dropped a 3-set match to Juniata then seized a close 3-set match victory over CCNY. Sophomore Adam Weaver led the Hawks (1-1) with 26 kills during the six-set day.
Juniata won (25-18, 25-17, 25-13) the 9 am opening game. Scott Ross finished with 8 digs while Weaver earned 13 kills. Stephen Phillips added 18 assists in the first game. Against CCNY, the Hawks earned their first win of the young season with Weaver again slamming 13 kills in the 25-19, 25-21, 26-24 contest. Newcomers Phillips (24 assists, 3 aces) and Ryan Ratajczak (9 digs) played solid for the Hawks in day one.
Hilbert competes against Thiel College (12pm) and host Elmira College (2pm) on day two of the tourney January 22.
The Hawks host their season opener January 28 (1pm) when they face Thiel College in Hamburg.
