CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Amanda Smolarek (Villa Maria/Lancaster, NY) scored 14 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the Hilbert College women’s basketball team to a 68-50 win over Cazenovia College Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks held a 31-14 advantage at the half while holding the host Wildcats to only seven field goals and preventing them from getting to the foul line.
“I’m impressed with our defensive effort today,” said second-year head coach Andrea Agnello. “We did a nice job on the boards and got some quality minutes from our bench.”
Autumn Lee-Jeffries (Holy Angels/Buffalo, NY) and Kristen Curry (Wilson/Ransomville, NY) combined for 18 points, 10 rebounds and six steals to pace the Hawks (9-11, 3-3).
Cazenovia’s Monic’ka Phillips led the Wildcats (3-14) with 18 points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Hawks return to the Hafner Recreation Center tonight to face Pitt Bradford University at 6 p.m.
