HAMBURG, NY –Hilbert College head women’s basketball coach Kara Rehbaum begins her fourth year at the helm and will take the Hawks on the road to open the 2007-08 season. The Plattsburgh State Cardinal Classic gets underway Saturday with the host team facing Hilbert at 6:00 pm at Memorial Hall followed by Western Connecticut University against Mount Saint Mary’s College. Sunday’s championship and consolation games will start at 1:00 and 3:00 pm respectfully.

The Hawks missed out on post season play last winter and finished the 2006-07 season with a 2-22 record. Seniors Amanda McHale (Bradford, PA/Archbishop Walsh) Kellie Tingley (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) and Kaitlyn Miller (Depew, NY/Depew) will have to play big roles if the Hawks hope to qualify for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) tournament come March.

McHale was a second-team All-AMCC selection last winter after averaging 12.5 ppg and 10.6 rpg. The 5’11 forward was ranked 26th nationally in rebounding and her 3.2 blocks per game checked-in at eighth on the leader board.

Tingley averaged 4.4 ppg to go with 3.6 rpg last year and can play inside and out in the Hawks offense. At 5’7, she started 22 games last winter and brings the kind of experience Rehbaum will be counting on.

Miller is the Hawks’ all-time leader in assists (197) and her 83 three-pointers also ranks atop the Hilbert leader board. The 5’6 guard is coming of a junior campaign where she averaged 9.3 ppg.

5’8 sophomore Courtney DeVille (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore) contributed 6.1 ppg and 3.9 rpg in her rookie year and is well seasoned after leading the team in minutes played (37.2) in 2006-07.

Freshman Shelby Seguin (Ogdensburg, NY/Libson), Ryan Achtyl (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill), Samantha Klein (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale), Amanda Ratajczak (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale), and Elizabeth Kennedy (Ogdensburg, NY/Lisbon) make up a freshmen class ready to contribute. Sophomore women’s volleyball player Morgan Oag-Walker rounds out the roster.

The Hawks open the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday against Alfred University at 5:00 pm.
