Altoona, PA – For the first time during the 2011-2012 season, three Hilbert Hawks scored in double-digits in one game for the women’s basketball team. Leading the trio on February 19 in the 75-44 loss to Penn State Altoona (11-14, 8-10 AMCC) was junior Julie Bossard (Arkport, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) with 14 points (perfect 10 for 10 at the foul line) and 10 rebounds (10th double-double of season). Altoona got game-high scoring out of Marissa Chapman (24 points) in twenty-three minutes of action. Hilbert completes their season 1-23, 0-18 while Altoona moves on into the AMCC play-offs February 22nd for their first round game at Pitt-Bradford as the #5 seed.
The Hawks were able to stay within ten points the entire first half until Janelle Nardozza’s layup at 1:58 put the Lions up by twelve. Amber Grosch (Depew, NY/Depew) and Bossard answered back with scores closing the gap again, but Altoona finished the half with made foul shots giving the home team the 38-27 lead. The roster depth for Altoona was the difference in the game as they slowly pulled away from the Hawks building their largest lead at the conclusion of the game. Hilbert was outrebounded by only two (36-34) but Altoona’s field goal percentage (34%) and the fact they took twenty-four more shots from the floor just wore the Hawks down.
Sophomore Grosch earned her third double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while senior Amanda Dudek (Tonawanda, NY/ Tonawanda) finished her last game as a Hawk with a season high 10 points.
