Scoring Drought Hurts Women's Basketball

ERIE, PA – Penn State Behrend used a big second half spurt to capture a 70-21 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Hilbert College in women’s basketball December 7. Julie Bossard scored 8 points and 2 blocks and Katie Newton pulled down 7 rebounds in the Hawks loss. Behrend’s Julia Myers earned 10 points/14 rebounds to lead four players in double digit scoring as the Lions secured their third AMCC win in as many tries.
After Behrend built a 6-0 advantage, Jenah Labuski broke the ice for the Hawks off a pass from Kateland Ball. At 12:39, Sarah Lorusso hit two free throws to make it a two point game (6-4) and after Bossard put a the ball through the net three minutes later, the Hawks completed their first half scoring. With Hilbert’s eight percent field goal shooting, Behrend took a 25-6 half time lead to the locker room.
During the second twenty minutes, Hilbert warmed up from the floor making 30% of their shots, but Behrend also took it up a notch shooting 56% from the floor (44% from long distance). Bossard was three for five from the floor earning six points in the second stanza to lead the Hawks.
Behrend scored 37 points off turnovers and held a 46-32 rebounding advantage.
Hilbert returns home December 10 for their next AMCC contest against Pitt-Greensburg (2-6, 1-2) at 4pm.
