HAMBURG, NY – Sarah Lorusso’s 8 first half points led Hilbert College in a 25-23 half time advantage against Pitt-Greensburg in women’s basketball December 10. The Hawks beat the Bobcats in every category for 20 minutes but 20 minutes does not make a full basketball game. Led by Casey Stanton’s 25 points/12 rebounds effort Greensburg (3-6, 2-2) captured their second AMCC victory in the 62-43 win.
Stanton opened the game’s scoring with a long three but she was immediately matched by a behind-the-arc make by Hilbert’s Julie Bossard. Slowly, Greensburg built a nine point cushion (14-5), but Hilbert did not give up on defense and they continued to attack on offense. Tiana Cheasman tied the game with a driving layup just before Bossard’s two made free throws gave the home team their first lead at 3:49. Lorusso then sank a layup and made the following free throw to end play.
After intermission, each team traded baskets for almost seven minutes. At 12:09 on the clock, Courtney DiBridge started a Bobcat 20-0 run to seal the game. Bossard’s two free throws ended the run at 4:34.
Bossard finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds (3 steals) with Amber Grosch and Cheasman each netted 8 points in the loss. Greensburg’s Lexi Elliott (13) and Hannah Falcsik (12) each broke into double digits.
The Hilbert women’s basketball team (0-9, 0-3) takes a break for the holiday season. The Hawks return to action January 4, 2012 when they host cross town rival Medaille College at 8pm.
