The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) announced the AMCC Players of the Week ending September 20 and two Hilbert College's women's soccer players were the recipients of this week’s awards.
Sophomore forward Alyssa Hulbert (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) was named Player of the Week for her outstanding performance against conference rival the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Saturday, September 19th. In that game she had a hat-trick in the first seventeen minutes of the game and finished her contribution off with an assist on the 5th goal of the game en route to the team's 7-0 drubbing of Greensburg.
Sophomore goalie Mary Zinni (Batavia, NY/Batavia) had her hands full on Sunday, September 20th when the team traveled to Bethany College, WV. The Hawks were on the defensive end of their field most of the game with Bethany holding a shot advantage of 31-2. Zinni had 16 keeper saves securing the team's 0-0 double overtime tie.
Hilbert women’s soccer team is off to a 4-2-1 (1-0) start to the 2009 season. They play next on Thursday, September 24th at Thiel College in a 3pm/5pm double header format with the men’s team.
Also the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) chose Zinni as the Co-Defensive Player of the Week. “Zinni was flawless in a 1-0-1 week, as she recorded her fourth and fifth shutouts of the season. She helped Hilbert down rival Pitt-Greensburg, and then followed that performance with an amazing 16 saves to help her team post a double overtime tie against Bethany.”
