HAMBURG, N.Y. – Catcher Amber Fie (Olean, NY/Olean) tallied four hits and drove in five runs as the Hilbert College softball team won the first game of a conference doubleheader against Mount Aloysius College, 10-4. The Hawks continued their winning ways in the second game, defeating the Mounties 13-1 in five innings. With the victories, Hilbert improves to 4-4 overall, and 2-2 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. Mount Aloysius drops to 0-8 overall, and 0-6 in conference.

Two errors proved costly for Hilbert early on in game one, leading to three unearned runs by Mount Aloysius that gave the Mounties an early 4-0 lead. The Hawks fought back in the third, scoring five runs of their own as Fie smacked her second double of the day, driving in two.

Fie again came up big in the fourth, drilling a two-out triple that extended the Hawks lead to 6-4. Hilbert tacked on one more in the inning to make the score 7-4.

The Hawks continued to add to their lead in the fifth inning, as Fie again came up clutch with a two-out two RBI single which bumped the Hawk lead to 9-4. The Hawks added an unearned run in the sixth to round out the scoring.

Megan Gollaher (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) picked up her third consecutive victory, going the distance and striking out a season-best 10. Laura Stranc (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) added three hits for Hilbert, and Nicolette Newton (Forestville, NY/Forestville) chipped in with two hits in the victory.

The nightcap saw Hilbert break a 1-1 tie in the third inning with an 11-run barrage, as Mount Aloysius pitchers walked a total of seven batters in the inning. Kaitlyn Miller (Depew, NY/Depew) had two hits in the frame, scored two runs and drove in two. Fie and Gollaher also scored twice in the inning.

Gollaher (4-3) was again tremendous on the mound, allowing three hits and one run, while striking out six in a complete game win. Miller finished with three runs batted in. Holly Beecroft (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy) contributed with two hits and two RBI.

Hilbert College looks to extend their winning streak on Monday, April 11, as they play host to Alfred University in a non-conference doubleheader. The games are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
