MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Five costly errors allowed the Alvernia College Crusaders to score four unearned runs en route to a 4-0 win over the Hilbert College Hawks softball team on Monday. Later in the day against NCAA Division II Mansfield University, the Hawks trailed 4-5 but couldn’t get any closer in a 5-13 loss to the Mountaineers.
Hilbert pitcher Meghan Gollaher (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) suffered her second loss of the season despite Kaitlyn Miller (Depew, NY/Depew) belting out two of her team’s six hits against the Crusaders. A chance to make up some ground with the bases loaded in the fifth inning went for not and the Hawks (0-2) failed to push any runs across the plate.
Later in the day against the Mountaineers, Hilbert pitcher Kate Moyer (Scio, NY/Scio) made her debut on the mound where she picked up her first collegiate strikeout before taking the loss. Miller had a hit and a pair of RBIs and Gollaher went one for three from the plate with an RBI and run scored in the defeat.
The Hawks (0-3) will regroup for a game against Russell Sage College Tuesday at 9:30 AM before facing Hood College at 11:30 AM.
