Erie, PA: The Hilbert softball team dropped two conference games to Penn State Behrend on Tuesday, April 13. The 5-0 loss in game one and 4-1 loss in game two, slip the Hawks to 2-6 in the AMCC.
In game one, strong defense by both teams was the name of the game as the scoreboard remained blank for five innings. The sixth inning provided the most action of the game as Behrend registered five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-0 lead which would eventually result in a win for the Lions. Freshman duo Jill Martucci (Hamburg, NY/ Hamburg), Emili Ripley (Batavia, NY/ Notre Dame Catholic) and sophomore Halsey Baker (Scio, NY/ Scio) generated the only hits for Hilbert in the defeat.
Behrend jumped on the board first in game two as they racked up three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Hilbert would answer back in the top of the seventh as Rachel Parker (Hamburg, NY/ Hamburg) started off the inning with a single. Baker earned her fifth double of the season and sixteenth RBI sending Melissa Radder (Cheektowaga, NY/ Sacred Heart) home to put one on the scoreboard for the Hawks. Rebecca Sutton (Eden, NY/ Eden) would earn the final out of the inning after grounding out to first base. Hilbert fell short 4-1 suffering their second loss of the day.
Hilbert has a three game home stand as they face Penn State Altoona and Franciscan University on April 17 and 18 followed by Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday, April 21.
