MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Hilbert College softball team turned things around on day two of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic when they soundly beat Johnson State 13-1 in the morning match after losing to them one day earlier. Unfortunately, the Hawks dropped the afternoon tilt 8-0 to Drew and lost a starter to injury.
Junior Emily Ripley had a break out game going three for four at the plate and whacking three doubles in the process in the Johnson State rematch. Freshman Rachel Collier, senior Halsey Baker and sophomore Natalie Whitman were productive with two hits apiece. Junior Devan Jonathan went the distance on the mound and earned her first win of the season.
Against Drew, the Hawks suffered through a game without Amber Grosch who took a trip to the hospital for evaluation of a knee injury. Baker and Whitman each had a double while Allison Hall and Collier hit singles in the loss.
The Hawks (1-3) return to action March 12 with games against Baptist Bible and Henry Ford Community College.
