MYRTLE BEACH, SC – With their 12-2 victory over the College of New Rochelle, the Hilbert College softball team earned their third win of the season while down in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. Earlier in the day, the Hawks dropped a close 6-4 loss to Ursuline College (OH).
Scoring double-figure runs for the third time this season, the Hawks were led by seniors Jill Martucci and Allison Hall with support from freshmen Rachel Collier and Kateland Ball. All four players were credited with two hits apiece in the 12-2 win. Junior Emily Ripley secured her second win after she struck out four batters through her two innings pitched. Allison Hall went in as relief and finished with five strike outs on her watch.
Earlier in the morning, Ursuline outdistanced the Hawks for the 6-4 Hilbert loss. Martucci and Collier each ended with two hits and Ripley made a spectacular defensive diving double play.
Hilbert (3-5) finishes their spring trip with an 11:30 am contest against Bay Path College (MA) March 14 before they head home to Western New York. The Hawks open their northern season with two AMCC contests on the road (Mount Aloysius March 24 and Behrend March 28) before they host their first home game March 31 against Altoona.
