MYRTLE BEACH, SC: The Hilbert women’s softball team captured their third straight win of the season as they defeated Becker College 10-4 and Albright College 11-7 in a comeback victory. The two wins improve the Hawks record to 4-1 on the season.

The Hawks took on Becker College for their first game of the day on Tuesday, March 16. Hilbert was off to a slow start as Becker went up 4-0 after two innings of play. The Hawks battled back behind the strong pitching from freshman Devan Jonathan (Basom, NY/Akron) who threw five scoreless innings while only allowing four hits.

Senior first baseman Sarah Collins (Milroy, PA/Indian Valley) started the comeback rally with two RBI’s in the third inning followed by two RBI’s in the sixth inning.  Freshman Emili Ripley (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame Catholic) and sophomore third baseman Halsey Baker (Scio, NY/Scio) each went 3 for 4 during the game with 1 RBI a piece.

Freshman Amber Grosch (Depew, NY/Depew) contributed to the win with solid defense at the short stop position with four put outs. She also added to the offense with an RBI single. Becker struggled through the remainder of the game to find offensive flow. The Hawks would go on to win 10-4.

In their final game of the day, Hilbert once again came from behind to win 11-7. The Hawks trailed 0-5 after the top of the third inning. The bottom of third inning saw Hilbert’s bats come alive as they scored 4 runs cutting the 0-5 deficit to within one.

In the fourth inning Hilbert continued to cross home plate with four more runs. Hilbert would take the lead for good after their dominating offensive performance during the third and fourth innings.  The Hawks were led by freshman Emili Ripley who pitched the entire game, giving up only 7 hits. She added to the offense going 2 for 4 with a game high 5 RBI’s. Halsey Baker went 3 for 4 adding 2 more RBI’s.

Amanda Ratajczak (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) had a strong performance behind the plate and added to the Hawks smothering offense with a double and a single.

Timely hitting and strong defense by Hilbert would prove to be too much for the aggressive Albright team. Hilbert defeated Albright 11-7 for their third straight victory.

The Hawks will look improve their record in tomorrow’s matchups as they clash with Stevenson University at 11:30 a.m. followed by Bay Path College at 1:30 p.m.
