STEUBENVILLE, OH – With the 2-0 victory, Franciscan University snapped Hilbert College’s three-game winning streak in women’s soccer October 1. After today’s match, Franciscan and Hilbert are tied 1-1 in AMCC league standings.
Playing their first game in cold, rainy and windy conditions, the Hawks struggled to find open looks at the goal. During the 90 minute contest, Hilbert was able to get just four shots off with Julie Bossard’s one shot at (49:27) being the only shot on goal. The Barons fired 19 shots (7 on goal) towards Hilbert’s Mary Zinni who finished with 5 saves.
Julia Cocozza scored the game winner just before half time (44:37) off an Amanda Looman assist. With just over 20 minutes into the second half, Stacy Lancour stretched the lead after Ashley Ruttencutter pushed the ball towards Zinni. After Franciscan’s second goal, Hilbert took two more shots in their failed attempt to capture an AMCC road win.
Up next for Hilbert (6-4, 1-1) is a home contest against Pitt-Bradford October 5 at 4pm.
