PITTSBURGH, PA – Senior Julie Bossard’s 10 points led Hilbert in their 71-30 defeat to the league’s 2011-12 preseason favorite, La Roche College in women’s basketball December 3. The RedHawks picked up where they left off a season ago when they won the AMCC championship and participated in the NCAA Division III tournament. La Roche improves to 5-1 (2-0) with the win and drops Hilbert to 0-7 (0-1) as both teams start the final month of the 2011 calendar year.
Sarah Lorusso delivered the game’s first score with a lay-up in the first minute to give Hilbert their only lead of the contest. La Roche then went on a 22-0 run over the next six minutes to take a 40-14 half time lead. Bossard scored six of her game-high ten points by the break.
In the final 20-minutes, La Roche put 19 different players on the court who defensively held the Hawks to 4.5% field goal shooting percentage. Hilbert’s 13-21 from the foul line combined with Tiana Cheasman’s three point bucket completed the second half scoring for the visitors.
Kateland Ball led the Hawks with seven rebounds and Tiana Cheasman chipped in eight points. Casie Cygan went four for six from the three point line to lead the RedHawks with 12 points as fourteen different players got their name in the score book.
Hilbert travels to Erie, PA December 7 to face Penn State Behrend (5-1, 2-0) in an 8pm tip.
