BOX SCORE

HAMBURG, NY – In a physical, back-and-forth game, the Hilbert College women’s basketball team was beaten by Franciscan University, 57-53, February 4.  With the Hawks up by as many as seven in the second half, Franciscan battled back to capture their second win of the season.

Down two with five minutes to play, Hilbert junior Amber Grosch took the ball to the hole, making a layup to tie up the game.  A foul put the visitors up by two points again but freshman Sarah Lorusso {in photo to right} drained a three pointer to take the lead back.  Franciscan made another quick basket, but Lorusso answered back with a layup, which would be the last Hilbert score in the game.

For the Hawks, Lorusso finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the game.  Senior Julie Bossard was just shy of a double-double, chipping in 13 points and nine rebounds while also contributing three blocks and two steals.

Franciscan’s Amy O’Keefe led all scorers with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Teammates Lacey Huck and Christine Conrad finished with 12 points each for the night.

Hilbert will host D’Youville College on Wednesday, February 8 at 8pm.
