STEUBENVILLE, OH – Facing a red-hot hitting front line, Hilbert dropped three straight sets to Franciscan University October 27 to finish their regular season schedule at 15-10. The Barons (14-14) ended the match hitting .432, shutting down the Hawks 25-16, 25-21 and 25-11 to move to 7-2 in the AMCC. Before the match was played, Hilbert had qualified for their first AMCC post season tournament but after the loss, the Hawks dropped to a sixth seed forcing them to travel for the first round game.
Rachel Kwiatkowski led the Hawks hitting with .667 off six kills, no errors in nine attempts. Allegra Johnson was one kill away from a double, as she finished with nine kills and 10 digs and Jordan Botsford had nine digs and seven kills.
Hitting an incredible .600 from the middle, Anna Cain competed with zero hitting errors and 15 kills while Amy O’Keefe played great defense getting to 11 digs for the home team.
Up next for both programs is a rematch on October 31. Penn State Behrend and Medaille earned first round byes but will face the winners in the semi-final matches. Behrend will host the weekend tourney November 3 and 4 with the AMCC champion gaining an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
