HAMBURG, N.Y. – A modernized staging of “Cyrano,” Edmund Rostand’s classic tale of romance and adventure, will be performed by the Buffalo Laboratory Theatre at Hilbert College, with a portion of proceeds to benefit Doctors Without Borders’ Haitian relief efforts.

Performances of “Cyrano,” which will feature live music, are scheduled for 8 p.m. Feb. 12-13 and Feb. 18-20 with a 2 p.m. matinee on Feb. 14 in Hilbert’s William E. Swan Auditorium. A special opening weekend offer with the purchase of two tickets will include a coupon for a glass of champagne and a chocolate strawberry dessert at Romanello’s South Restaurant in Hamburg.

Set in Paris in the 17th century, “Cyrano” is the story of Cyrano de Bergerac, a brilliant poet and swordsman who finds himself deeply in love with his beautiful, intellectual cousin Roxanne. Despite Cyrano’s brilliance and charisma, his extremely large nose afflicts his appearance and he considers himself too ugly to risk telling Roxanne about his feelings.

BLT’s production of “Cyrano” will star Ray Boucher and Hilbert alumni Kathleen Golde ’97 and Taylor Doherty ‘94, Hilbert assistant professor of drama.

Tickets are $15 for the public and $10 for seniors and college students. Tickets and information are available by calling 926-8843 or e-mail tdoherty@hilbert.edu.
