Honorable Mention All-Conference Team
Release Date:
November 11, 2009

PITTSBURGH, PA — For the second time in two years, a men’s soccer player at Hilbert College has been named to the Honorable Mention All-Conference team of the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). Defender Greg Lake (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was recognized for his dependable play during the 2009 fall season by the opposing AMCC coaches.  Lake graduates in May 2010 after only 3 seasons of competition at Hilbert.

33 players and 1 coach are recognized for their abilities and sportsmanship by the conference coaches at the completion of each season. The AMCC names 11 players (4 forwards, 3 midfielders, 3 defenders and 1 goalie) to the 1st Team All-Conference, 2nd Team All-Conference and Honorable Mention teams; the 2009 Player of the Year is Gary Boughton, a senior forward from Medaille College; the 2009 Newcomer of the Year is Nicholas Kline, a freshman midfielder from Penn State Altoona; and the Coach of the Year is Dan Krzyzanowicz from Medaille College. Frostburg State University beat Penn State Altoona in the championship game by a score of 1-0 in OT in the AMCC championship game. To see the complete 2009 men's soccer award winners click here.

Lake logged the most minutes per game on the team and was a fierce defender in front of his goalie all season. As a defender, he did not get any shots off on goal, but he was credited for one assist this season in the Penn State Altoona game. Lake’s focus was to lead the team and protect his goal. “Greg Lake has set an example that many of the boys looked up to in our roster. His leadership was top notch and so was his central defense play this year. He is more than deserving of this award,” commented Hilbert’s head coach Tim Kronenwetter. “This year’s team only surrendered 43 goals which is a huge improvement over any of the previous seasons and much of that points to Greg’s organizing.”
