 Rob Peterson, who has more than 15 years coaching experience in collegiate and high school basketball, has been named head women’s basketball coach at Hilbert College, announced Susan Viscomi, director of athletics.

Prior to coming to Hilbert, Peterson served as the assistant women’s basketball coach at the State University of New York at Geneseo for the two seasons and helped lead the Knights to doubling its win total in the 2010-2011 season.
 
Prior to arriving at SUNY Geneseo, Peterson spent one season as interim head women’s basketball coach at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he also served as assistant coach from 2006-08. While at RIT, he helped guide the team to its longest consecutive win streak and its first post-season play in the program’s history.
 
Peterson’s head coaching career started he was only 21-years-old when he took on coaching the varsity girls team at Homer High School. Other stints as high school coach have included varsity boys teams at York Central School, where he is a physical education teacher, and Marcus Whitman and Cincinnatus high schools.
 
A long-time coach at summer basketball camps, Peterson developed and managed for nine years the Little Dribblers, an introductory basketball program for children in grades 1-2 in the York Central District.
 
In 2006, he received coaching honors as New York State Section V Class C Boys Coach of the Year and Livingston County News Boys Coach of the Year.
 
Peterson holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in physical education from SUNY Cortland.
 
A native of Whitney Point, N.Y., he resides in Avon.

 

 

Ken Cudney 
Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

Ken Cudney will return to assist Rob Peterson’s staff this fall. The Perry, NY native has 35 years of teaching at the high school level with overlapping coaching positions in basketball, softball, soccer, and track and field between Perry Central and York Central schools since 1984. While at Perry the Yellowjackets won three Section V Championships with Cudney’s assistance. Cudney will be very involved in practices each day and working primarily on post player development. 
 
Since 2007, Coach Cudney has been employed in the York Central School District as a substitute teacher as well as the varsity softball coach. He completed his associate’s degree in applied science, recreation supervisor from Monroe Community College and transitioned to the University of Dayton and earned his bachelors degree in health, physical education and recreation in 1973. Cudney has 36 hours of graduate course education from both SUNY Brockport and Rochester Institute of Technology.

 

 

 

Dave Burley

Bringing sixteen years of coaching and officiating, Dave Burley completes Rob Peterson’s 2011-2012 coaching staff. The semi-retired teacher in the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES system served as an assistant coach to Peterson when they guided the Marcus Whitman high school team together. Prior to his teaching duties, Burley worked in the Wegman’s grocery stores for twenty years.  Burley will assist in the guard development as well as facilitate practices and manage the recruiting process.
