Medaille Over-powers the Hawks
- Release Date:
- February 1, 2012
BUFFALO, NY – The Hilbert College women’s basketball team was beaten by Medaille College (55-21) February 1. Hilbert (2-11, 3-17) never got on track offensively and struggled with foul trouble both halves against the Mavericks, who continue to hold onto second place in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference standings with two weeks left to go in the season.
Jenah Labuski was the lone Hawk to break into double digits for the night. Her 10 points and two steals were team highs during a game where twenty-one fouls were whistle against the visitors. Jessica Jamison grabbed eight rebounds in the loss.
Medaille opened the game with a quick three-pointer and continued their scoring till they held a 26-6 halftime advantage. Hilbert matched Medaille’s effort during the first twenty minutes. Both teams earned six points in the paint, Medaille scored 8 second –chance points compared to Hilbert’s 6; bench points were close with Medaille holding a 3 point advantage (5-2). Two major differences were Medaille scoring seven points off Hilbert’s 12 turnovers and the Mavericks shooting 23.5% from the floor as opposed to Hilbert’s 10% field goal percentage.
Medaille’s depth, with 10 players scoring in the second half, over powered the four Hawks who chipped in on the score board.
Hilbert returns to action February 4 when they host Franciscan University (1-11, 1-17) at 4 pm. The Hawks took a 67-54 victory in Steubenville, OH three weeks ago.
