Francis & Clare Food Cabinet The John Francis Food Cabinet assists Hilbert students, faculty and staff in need of short-term, emergency assistance. Annual food collections are held on campus to support both the food cabinet and local food pantries. Individuals needing assistance should contact Hilbert's office of Campus Ministry. Confirmation Classes / Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Students seeking full membership in the Catholic church through the RCIA program, or those desiring to receive the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation may register with Hilbert College Campus Ministry for free, weekly classes arranged to your schedule. Luncheon Lectures Focusing on "Tales from Assisi," this year's series will include writings from the Fioretti, or "Little Flowers of St. Francis." Free and open to the public, each event is held in the Campus Center Cove from 12:15 to 1 p.m. As alwyas, BYOL: buy/bring your own lunch. Whether you are Catholic, Christian, from another faith tradition or are uncertain about your faith, Campus Ministry staff are there to journey with you as you discover what is meaningful in your life. Spring-Break Alternative 1. Long-distance option: Spend March 15-20 working with poor, rural children and families at St. Ann's Catholic Outreach Center in Kingstree, SC. Limited space; sign-up early in the office of Campus Ministry. 2. Short-distance option: One-day Service Project with Habitat for Humanity, Tuesday, March 18, 9 am - 4 p.m. Site: 99 Weber Street, Buffalo, NY 14215, Wear old clothes/pack a lunch. Contact the office of Campus Ministry if interested. Volunteer Opportunities Habitat for Humanity - Volunteer work groups from Hilbert College assist with refurbishing older homes or constructing new builds for low-income families. Students personally benefit by learning new skills, increase self confidence and gain a sense of pride. Work days from 9 am to 4 pm are scheduled for the following Saturdays: Oct. 13, Nov. 3, 2007; Feb. 23 & March 18, 2008. Sign up in the Campus Ministry office. Vive, Inc. - Spend a day at a local refugee shelter in Buffalo, NY and meet refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Haita, Rwanda, Columbia, Guatemala, Zimbabwe, Turkey and Iraq. While at Vive, you might interact with children, cook/serve a meal, accompany the residents on a field trip or do light maintenance work. Whatever you do, it will be an internationally enlightening experience. If interested, save Oct. 19 for Vive!
