2012 Women's Cross Country Snap Shot
2012 Season Review: Starting virtually from scratch, Geoff Brunger was able to pull together a quality team of runners for this 2012 fall season which shows promising signs for the future of the Hilbert women’s cross country program. With only one returning athlete, the 2012 Hawks team was loaded with first year runners eager to train and improve their times.
Junior Shannon Ellis carried the women’s cross country team all season. Her times bettered the Hawks top runner from one season ago with her personal best 22:07 (5K) earned at the Harry F. Anderson race. Ellis led the Hawk squad that finished 9th out of 10 teams at the AMCC Championships, when she was timed at 28:15 on a very chilly day and on a very hilly 6K course.
Freshman Miranda Reimondo was a very dependable runner this fall. She was the first Hawk to cross the finish line in the Meghan Memorial 5K race as she was tracked in 9th place (24:21) overall.
Kayla Lansberry, Kateland Ball and Julie Rouleau trained every day and their improved times reflected their hard work and dedication. Lansberry improved her 6K time by the end of the season and her personal best 5K time was 26:02. Ball scored her personal best 26:04 at Seneca Lake State Park (CCOC) just prior to the AMCC championship race. And Rouleau clipped two minutes off her time in the 5K race by the end of the season.
Crystal Hailey, Miranda Smith and Stephanie Smith completed the women’s roster and their contribution to the team was much appreciated. Hailey started strong but was sidelined with health issues while Miranda Smith’s times improved as the season winded down. Stephanie Smith trained all season but only competed in the AMCC Championship race because of a hip injury.
Coaches Brunger and Lisa Arnst are eager to continue the upward swing of the women’s program. They have a solid base of returning runners for next fall and will work hard to recruit new, dedicated harriers to the program.
