HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College’s Eliza Stringham and William Wagner were honored as the Athletes of the Week today after their first full week of athletic competition in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Stringham was selected as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Week after leading the Hawks with a .423 batting average down south. Despite a slow start in the opening games, the junior-college transfer exploded in the third game against Johnson State with 3 hits, 2 runs, 1-double and 1 RBI. In her first week as a Hawk, the second baseman had 11 hits (2 doubles) and 6 runs with 6 RBIs.
Hilbert (2-6) returns to action March 23 when they travel to Wells College. Their March 19th home game against Houghton College has been postponed due to field conditions.
Wagner was chosen as the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men’s lacrosse Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week. The sophomore keeper helped the Hawks to their first win of the season as he made 13 saves between the pipes while also registering two ground balls and one caused turnover in the Hawks 10-6 victory over Emmanuel College (MA) March 13. Currently, Wagner is fourth in the NEAC in both total saves (45) and save percentage (52.9).
Hilbert (1-2) returns to action March 20th when they travel to Thiel College for a 4 pm faceoff. They don’t make a home appearance until March 30th when they hosts NEAC opponent, Cobleskill (2pm).
