When to Use the Counseling Center

You may find counseling helpful with some of these concerns or issues.

Personal Concerns

  • Homesickness
  • Low self-esteem
  • Relationship difficulties (parents, spouse, friends, roommates, girlfriends or boyfriends)
  • Loss or grieving
  • Eating disorders (bulimia, anorexia, overeating)
  • Sexuality concerns
  • Excessive use of alcohol or drugs
  • Stress, anxiety or depression
  • Physical, verbal and/or sexual abuse
  • Life transitions (marriage, graduation, leaving home, having children)
  • Educational difficulties
  • Substance abuse

 

Other Reasons to Consider Seeking Help

  • Restlessness or irritability
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia or excessive sleeping)
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Unexplained tearfulness or emotional outbursts
