Weaver VanDunk
Adam Weaver from the men’s volleyball team and Jordan VanDunk from the men’s basketball team have been named the Hilbert College’s Co-Student-Athletes of the Month for February, 2012.
Weaver (Stow, OH/Archbishop Hoban) started all eight of the matches he dressed for during February, and, in the 28 sets played, averaged 2.25 kills and 1.46 digs per set. The Hawks finished the month 2-7 overall with wins against SUNYIT and Wells College. The sophomore captain’s best hitting percentage of .450 (10-1-20) was against Wells College, February 25th and his match-high 13 kills was during a five-set win against SUNYIT Feb. 11th. Weaver’s outstanding play was recognized February 27 when he was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week.
VanDunk (Dansville, NY/Dansville) started all eight games in February averaging 25.5 minutes per game. The Hawks finished the month going 4-4 as they pushed to secure a high-seeded play-off slot. The sophomore forward’s 12.8 points per game (2nd highest) and 6.9 rebounds per game led the Hawks during the last month of their season. Shooting 52.2% from the field and 66.7% from the charity stripe, VanDunk led the team in blocks (4) and offensive rebounds (22). He earned a double-double (26 pts./10 rebs.) against the tallest player in the AMCC this season and his all-around play in February helped the Hawks (15-12, 11-7) secure a fourth place finish in league standings, earning the right to host a home game during the AMCC post-season tournament.
