FORT PIERCE, FL- The Hilbert College baseball team returned to action with a split decision against Delaware Valley College March 16. The Hawks captured another win in the 11-8 morning game and dropped a 13-1 contest later in the day. Hilbert (3-5) plays one more set of games March 17 before they head back to Western NY to begin league play next weekend.
Freshman Derek Mort opened the contest and carried the team through four innings. Garrett Pauly took the mound in the fifth inning to close out the team’s third victory in Florida. The Hawks had a combined 14 team hits. Senior Jim Pernick had an impressive 3 for 4 hitting day with 4 RBIs as did senior Chris Hoak who earned 3 RBIs after going 3 for 5 at the plate.
The afternoon game wasn’t so favorable for the blue and white. Pernick was 2 for 2 with one double. His younger brother, Joe, sent him home for the team’s only score. Frank Casey took the loss (13-1) going three and a third innings on the mound.
Hilbert boards the bus and heads home after they complete the Richard Stockton double header March 17.
