HAMBURG, N.Y. – An eclectic mix of poetry and traditional and modern African dance and music performed by various local artists will take center stage at Hilbert College’s spring Visiting Artist Series event.
“An Evening of Poetry, Music and Dance: African and Modern Traditions” will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 29 in the William E. Swan Auditorium. A reception will immediately follow the performances.
Featured artists will include drummer Ras Jomo Akono; bass player Zuri Appleby; poets Erika Haygood, Hilbert assistant professor of liberal studies, and Ntare Gault; dancer Robin Hibbert; violinist Henri Muhammad; and dancer Christopher Titus. Poetry readings, which will be interwoven with the dance and music performances throughout the one-hour show, will focus on life stories, social values and ongoing national and international events.
