HAMBURG, NY - Hilbert College swept Cazenovia College, 15-7 and 10-0, in softball April 3. The Hawks hit the ball well to open the double header and carried that confidence into the second game to secure the win in the fifth inning.
Natalie Whitman earned her first home run of the season early in the game and Emili Ripley followed suit by sending her ball over the fence to earn her second home run of the year. The most exciting hit of the game was when Halsey Baker's powerful swing connected on the pitch. The softball rocketed over the fence to give the senior her first grand slam of the season. Hilbert continued to run the bags for additional scores and finished the game with 15 runs, their highest run total in 2012.
The Hawks continued to play with confidence and hit well enough early enough to build a 10-0 lead by the middle of the fifth inning. At that point, the game was called based on the run-rule and Hilbert got the win.
Hilbert begins AMCC play again this weekend when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA to face La Roche College at 1pm.
