HAMBURG, NY – The Hilbert College baseball team split games with La Roche College on April 7. The Hawks opened with a 3-1 win over the visitors, but the Redhawks answered back, winning the second game 25-2.
La Roche earned their only run in the first game off a wild pitch by Hilbert’s
Nick Sherman, allowing
Sean Lubin to sprint home. The Hawks responded at the bottom of the inning when
Joe Pernick made it home as part of
Jim Pernick’s dinger to right center field. The game moved at a quick pace with three innings of scoreless baseball before Hilbert tallied their last run at the bottom of the 5th.
Ryan Ilardi’s double placed him on base and
Curt Macysyn’s base hit brought him home.
Hilbert’s Sherman (3-4) pitched a complete game striking out four and giving the Hawks their second AMCC win of the season.
During the second game of the AMCC double-header contest, La Roche came out swinging as they tallied an enormous 31 hits as a team, and collecting 25 RBIs. The Hawks fought to stay in the second game.
Joe Pernick and
Chris Hoak each had two hits for Hilbert, while
Pat Lagueras,
Frank Mancuso, and
Ilardi all contributed hits of their own.
La Roche scored the first run of the game in the first inning, but they continued to put runs on the board in the third ( nine), the fifth (7) and sixth (8) innings.
The Hawks are currently 6-15 overall and 2-6 in AMCC play with a lot of their season still ahead of them. Hilbert will travel to Pitt-Bradford April 11 before returning back home to host D’Youville College in a non-conference matchup on Friday, April 13 at 2 and 5pm.
