HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Student Government Association is partnering with the Village of Hamburg to collect used clothing from the community to benefit two local charities as part of SustainU’s oneShirt Challenge, the nation’s largest collegiate clothing drive.
OneShirt challenges college students from across the country to collect and donate used clothing during Earth Week 2012, which takes place from April 16-22. Donations may be dropped off in bins around Hilbert’s Hamburg campus at 5200 South Park Ave., the Village of Hamburg Youth Center at 200 Prospect Ave., and Village Hall at 100 Main St. Donated items will benefit the St. Vincent De Paul Society and Operation Good Neighbor.
Building on momentum from last year when nearly 100 schools participated, SustainU, a leading producer of 100 percent recycled clothing made in the U.S., expects more than 200 schools throughout the country to join the inter-school competition.
Collected clothes will be weighed and schools with the highest total and per-student amounts will be declared the Big Shirts on Campus winners. At Hilbert, the class year of students, from freshmen to seniors, that collects the most donations will receive a Very Eco People pizza party.
