HAMBURG, NY – The Hilbert College softball team suffered two AMCC losses versus Pitt-Bradford April 12. The Hawks lost 16-3 in the first game of the afternoon and fell short 9-1 in the later game. Amber Grosch went three for five (.600) for Hilbert for the day. Emili Ripley {celebration pictured at right} came up big in the early game, going two for five, including ripping a homerun to left-centerfield for the Hawks.
The Panthers put runs on the board early in the first game, having five hits in the first inning. When it was time for Hilbert to answer back, Rachel Collier stepped up to the plate with a base hit that brought in two runs. Bradford responded with another five-hit inning which proved to be too much for the Hawks, as they could never recover. Devan Jonathan pitched a complete game through 5 innings and gave up 16 hits.
The later contest started differently. The Hawks loaded the bases and were down 2-1 in the first inning when Kateland Ball flew out to right field. Hilbert held the Panthers to a low-scoring second inning, but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity and remained scoreless for the remainder of the game. Ripley was credited with the loss on the mound for the Hawks, allowing nine hits.
Adding hits for Hilbert in the double-header contest were Natalie Whitman with a double, and base hits by Halsey Baker and Jill Martucci. Baker was also credited with an RBI.
The Hawks (5-14, 1-9) have one day off before they host AMCC opponent Franciscan University at 1 and 3pm on Saturday, April 14.
